Next time you're planning to visit London, there's a really unique way to see all the major sites in the capital. Duck Tours transports you round the city in bright yellow colored amphibious landing craft and you'll see the famous tourist attractions in London not only from the road and also from the water! Originally called DUKWs and built in 1942, this craft was used to bring supplies from the ships to the beaches during the Second World War. The fact they were amphibiously saved a great deal of time in getting supplies to where they were urgently needed and hence became revered by front line troops. In fact, 21,000 vehicles were used during the D-Day landings in 1944. They were also used during the Korean War but with the advent of the helicopter in the 50s, the much-loved DUKW vehicles had done their day or so we thought. A new paint job and a new name - Ducks (to represent their amphibious nature) - and now, they're parading around the streets of London in great numbers, giving the visitor a great insight into everything this wonderful city has to offer! The 75 minute Duck Tour of London starts from Chicheley Place behind the London Eye and first it's over Westminster Bridge offering great views of the River Thames, Parliament, and Big Ben. Round Parliament Square, the tour heads up Whitehall, past Downing Street, home to both the Prime Minister at no. 10 and the Chancellor of the Exchequer at no .11. Further past Horseguards Parade and the tour continues onto Trafalgar Square with the imposing Nelsons Column (and millions of pigeons!). Up St. James, past St James Palace and the entire Gentlemen's clubs in Pall Mall, we travel down Piccadilly, past the famous Ritz Hotel, and onto Hyde Park Corner. We then travel past Buckingham Palace (don't forget if the Royal flag on top of the palace is waiving that means the Queen is in residence) and onto Westminster Abbey before splashing onto to the water at Vauxhall Bridge. We travel along the Thames and back seeing many sights en route from the river before re-joining dry land and heading back to our pick up point.
